Empty Cage is a homage to John Cage who loved birds, and who wrote 'Empty Words', a marathon text drawn from the Journals of Henry David Thoreau.
The left hand of the piece is based on C-A-G-E, and the right hand includes imitation of swallows, cuckoos, nightingales and other birds. The duration of Empty Cage should be 4:33 like one of John Cage's most known and most provoking pieces. |
